31 Days of Virtue: Day 4
The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down. Proverbs 14:1
In this verse 'house' does not mean the building we live in; just like 'church' does not refer to the building we worship in. But I would like to think you already knew that. 'House' refers to our families, our households. As wise women - women of virtue - we must build our house; never tear it down.
We should raise up our children God's way. We love them, nurture them, and teach them to stay on the narrow path. We should take care of our homes, keeping them clean, organized, and comfortable. We provide for our husbands a place for them to relax and get away from work and the outside world. We respect our husbands and teach our children to do the same.
Who wants her children to act unruly? Who wants a home that is messy and in need of repair? Who wants her husband to dread coming home because it is unkept, unorganized, and no supper has been prepared for him? This woman is tearing down her house with her own hands.
We must work hard to be this wise woman. No one wants their house - marriage and family - falling apart due to something that could have been prevented. Divorce should not even be in our vocabulary. There is no room for excuses. We are called, as virtuous women, to be helpers, to be our husband's crown, and to build our houses.
